Trace-Route

Computers on the Internet communicate by exchanging packets of data, which must traverse numerous switches and routers along the way. Each hop delays the packet slightly.

When Internet traffic is heavy, some switches delay packets much more than others. Traceroute can pinpoint where delays are occurring, helping to diagnose slow websites.
